As a leading club in south west London and one that has firmly established roots in the local communities surrounding Teddington and East Molesey, Teddington Youth Rugby is committed to encouraging the widest possible participation in rugby in the local community. There are three parts to our community programme:

We have a long association with a number of schools in both Richmond and Kingston boroughs and Teddington coached schools have participated successfully in the London Youth games representing their boroughs. As a result of sponsorship from Twickenham Volkswagen, Battle Associates, RAM International and a matching grant form Sportsmatch, Teddington Youth Rugby runs a 24 school in-curriculum programme in the winter and spring terms for year 5 and 6 children. The programme culminates in a Tag rugby tournament hosted by NEC Harlequins in November for Richmond schools and March for Kingston schools.

In addition Teddington Youth Rugby, in partnership with the participating schools will establish after school Tag rugby club for children in year 2 to 6. This will establish continuity of interest and sustainability in the programme through the spring and summer terms.

  • The programmes above are run with dedicated resources – all highly qualified and CRB checked coaches with significant playing experience and a strong interest in the local community.
  • Additionally, in conjunction with London Borough of Kingston, Kingston University, Surrey RFU and the London Active Partnership, Teddington Rugby has established a Kingston Borough Community Sports Coach Rugby Coach position. As the major contributors to this scheme, Teddington Rugby aim to focus the majority of the coach’s time on schools related coaching, particularly in secondary schools.
  • Thirdly Teddington Rugby offer specialist coaching, be it position specific, game related or age group focused to primary and particularly secondary schools in both the private and public sector across a wide geographical area.
